Earth Hour is this Saturday, March 29, from 8:30 to 9:30 p.m. As in past years, parts of Brock will go dark on Saturday in support of the annual worldwide event. And as part of this week’s lead up to Earth Hour, the University will also be unveiling a couple of new sustainability initiatives on campus.

Brock’s students’ union and administration have partnered on an initiative this fall that has, so far, kept nearly 50,000 plastic water bottles from ending up in landfill. Earlier this year, the Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU) purchased eight new water bottle filling stations and Facilities Management purchased one of these units for the University.

Next time you’re in the areas of St. Catharines or Thorold and the battery in your electric vehicle is running low roll into Brock University for a charge. The University recently installed its first electric vehicle charger (EVC) by the main entrance to the International Centre at its east campus in St. Catharines, Ont.

On May 1, unionized elevator mechanics in Ontario walked off the job due to labour action. As a result of this action, elevator repair response times a Brock have been delayed. The University community’s patience is greatly appreciated during this disruption, which may result in longer than normal service and repair times.

All buildings that were involved in the Annual Planned Electrical Shutdown currently have power. Buildings include the Schmon Tower, Thistle Complex, Decew Residence, Vallee Residence and the Central Utilities Building.
