PhD in Biological Sciences — James Willwerth

James Willwerth will present his thesis defence on Friday, April 29 at 10 a.m. in H313. The title of his thesis is “Delineation of Within-site Terroir Effects using Soil and Vine Water Measurements in Riesling Vineyards within the Niagara Peninsula.” Examining committee members are Joffre Mercier, chair; Ian Merwin, Cornell University, external examiner; Andrew Reynolds, supervisor; Marilyn Jollineau, internal examiner; Helen Fisher and Doug Bruce, committee members.

PhD in Biological Sciences — Gabriel Balint

Gabriel Balint will present his thesis defence on Monday, May 2 at 12:30 p.m. in H313. The title of his thesis is “Impact of different irrigation strategies on grapes and wine quality of four grapevine cultivars (Vitis sp.) in cool climate conditions. Investigation into the relationship among ABA, water status, grape cultivar and wine quality.” Examining committee members are Joffre Mercier, chair; Sara Spayd, North Carolina State University, external examiner; Andrew Reynolds, supervisor; Tony Shaw, internal examiner; Helen Fisher and Gary Pickering, committee members.

Master of Education — Paul White

Paul White will present his thesis defence on Tuesday, April 19 at 10 a.m. in WH 147 (Welch Hall). The title of the thesis is “Introduction to Engineering: A Case Study of an Interdisciplinary Course in Mathematics, Science, and Technology.” External examiner: Ronald Hansen, University of Western Ontario; supervisor: Xavier Fazio; committee members: Joe Engemann and Louis Volante; chair of the examining committee: Tiffany Gallagher.

Master of Education — Jennifer Brant

Jennifer Brant will present her thesis defence on Wednesday, April 20 at 10 a.m. in WH 147 (Welch Hall). The title of the thesis is “Aboriginal Women in Education: Honouring Our Experiences – A Vision of Access and Success to and within the University.” External examiner: Carmen Robertson, University of Regina; supervisor: Michael Manley-Casimir; committee members: Michelle McGinn, Mary-Louise Vanderlee, and John Hodson; chair of the examining committee: Jonathan Neufeld.

Master of Arts — Sandy Kovacs

Sandy Kovacs (MA Leisure Studies) will defend her thesis on Monday, April 25 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in Walker Complex 204B. Master of Education — Kerry Armstrong

Kerry Armstrong will present her thesis defence on Monday, April 25 at 2 p.m. in WH 147 (Welch Hall). MSc in Management – Ji Lin

Thesis defence for Ji Lin, Faculty of Business, Department of Finance, Operations and Information Systems, will be Tuesday, April 26 at 1 p.m. in the Sankey Chamber. The title of her thesis is “Liquidity, Institutional Ownership and Regulation Fair Disclosure.” Her examining committee members are Joe Kushner, chair; Avanidhar Subrahmanyam, external examiner, UCLA; Lawrence He, supervisor; Unyong Pyo and Samir Trabelsi.

MSc in Management Thesis Defence - Zhanpeng He

Master of Science in Management thesis defence for Zhanpeng He, Faculty of Business, Department of Finance, Operations and Information Systems, will be Friday, April 29 at 2 p.m. in Taro Hall 230. The title of his thesis is “Using Bayesian Model for Bankruptcy Prediction: A Comparative Approach.” His examining committee members are: Robert Dimand, chair; Peter Easton, external examiner, University of Notre Dame; Samir Trabelsi, supervisor; Lawrence He and Martin Kusy.

Master of Education — Melissa Augustin

Melissa Augustin will present her thesis defence on Friday, May 6 at 10 a.m. in WH 147 (Welch Hall).
