Faculty, staff and students rolled up their sleeves on Nov. 5 for Brock’s first on-campus blood donor clinic in a decade.

Donors at a clinic in the Ian Beddis Gymnasium contributed to Brock’s goal of collecting 100 units of blood this year. The goal is part of a student-led blood drive offered in partnership with Canadian Blood Services.

In recent years, there has been a problem finding space to hold an on-campus blood clinic, said Kristen Smith, manager of Student Life and Community Experience.

But blood drive volunteers are used to being mobile. On the first Wednesday of every month, a shuttle transports students to the local Canadian Blood Services office to give blood. The shuttle leaves at 10 a.m., 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. Participants can sign up at the Welcome Desk in the Schmon Tower. As always, potential donors can always call 1-888-2-DONATE.

Regular faculty, staff and student blood donors who give outside of the drive are asked to tell Canadian Blood Services that they are from Brock so their donation will contribute to the university’s total.

Canadian Blood Services recognized Brock’s efforts at the annual Honouring Our Lifeblood recognition ceremony in May.
