Goodman international students explore entrepreneurship in Niagara

Goodman School of Business international students have already invested in Niagara by choosing Brock University. And now, as they prepare to graduate, they look to continue investing in the region they have come to love.

To help them, the Goodman School of Business hosted a symposium earlier this month for graduating international students and their parents to explore entrepreneurship and investment in Niagara. Goodman international students had expressed a desire to learn more about such opportunities. The event was co-ordinated by Goodman BBA and MBA alumna Nancy Lan.

“We know Niagara is a great place to live, so we can easily understand our international students’ desire to stay and invest in this region,” says Don Cyr, Goodman Dean. “We brought these experts together to answer our students’ questions and reinforce the fact that Niagara is growing and is an attractive place for international investment.”

Regional Chair Alan Caslin opened the event by highlighting innovative and entrepreneurial activities happening in Niagara. He invited participants to join the Region in its economic prosperity agenda.

A panel discussion offered advice and insight from Niagara Economic Development, the Welland/Niagara Falls/Port Colborne Chambers of Commerce, the Niagara Industrial Association, a local immigration lawyer and a wealth management expert from BMO. Members of the local business community were also present to show their support.

As part of the presentation, videos were shown to help tell the stories of Richard Liu, owner of Sunnybrook Farm Estate Winery in Niagara-on-the-Lake, and Ravindra Singh, owner of RPN Global Technologies in St. Catharines, who both immigrated to Niagara to start businesses.

Feedback from students and parents indicated the session will help them make an informed investment decision. The Goodman School of Business looks forward to staying connected with new graduates and supporting entrepreneurship in Niagara.
