Dan Dakin’s award shelf got a little more crowded this weekend.

The University’s media relations officer won two Ontario Newspaper Awards for his work as a journalist with the Welland Tribune before coming to Brock in March.

Dakin was presented with awards for his body of work in social media and for spot news coverage for his story about Joe Mellen Jr., a Niagara Regional Police officer killed while riding his motorcycle home after work last summer.

The 61st annual Ontario Newspaper Awards, which recognize excellence in daily print journalism, were handed out in Hamilton on Saturday.
