Brock students raised more money than they anticipated during last month’s 5 Days for the Homeless event.

When the final tally was done, $10,771.13 in cash and food donations came in for Housing Help of Community Care of St. Catharines & Thorold. The Brock Business Students’ Association, which organizes the event, set a fundraising goal at $10,000.

Nineteen students lived and slept outside Taro Hall for five days in March to draw attention to homelessness issues and raise money for the cause. Brock President Jack Lightstone supported their efforts by busking for donations with them in the Schmon Tower. Don Cyr, Goodman School of Business Dean, slept outdoors one night with the group, and St. Catharines Mayor Walter Sendzik helped by spending a few hours with the participants.
