Melissa Trapani was recently recognized by Brock President Jack Lightstone for her heroic actions that saved a fellow student’s life.

Trapani, a third-year business administration student, was studying in the Plaza Building when she heard someone calling for help. She found Cate Talaue, a fourth-year English Literature student struggling to breathe and quickly administered the Heimlich manoeuvre.

Trapani learned the life-saving move as part of her training to be a lifeguard. This was the first time she’d ever used it.

Beyond her presidential recognition, Trapani was also honoured by the business students’ association on March 27, with Talaue also in attendance.
