Philanthropy with a side of pancakes

When it comes to breakfast, Curtis Gadula is a proud member of Team Bacon and Eggs.

But the manager of off-campus living and neighbourhood relations knows the power of a good pancake, too. That’s why he’ll be flogging flapjacks March 11 during a campus-wide pancake breakfast in support of Raising the Roof, a Canadian homelessness solutions organization.

“It’s one more example of Brock giving back,” Gadula said.

Gadula will be one of several Brock “celebrities” serving pancakes with a smile to the hungry masses. Ten dollars gets breakfast and either a Raise the Roof tuque or pair of socks, with proceeds going to the organization’s annual tuque campaign. Students, staff and faculty can use their Brock Card to pay.

Griddles will be fired up in time to start serving pancakes at 8 a.m. in DeCew and Lowenberger dining halls, Guernsey Market and Isaac’s. Breakfast runs until 9:30 a.m.

This is the first time Brock has hosted a pancake breakfast for Raising the Roof.

Gadula said the inspiration for a Brock edition came from the annual event held in downtown St. Catharines every February.

The University’s event coincides with the 5 Days of Homelessness campaign that will be happening outside Taro Hall March 8 to 13.
