New project benefits students with print disabilities

Students with print disabilities are now able to discover and download library books in accessible formats from the Accessible Content E-Portal (ACE), including at the James A. Gibson Library.

A project of the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL), this growing repository of accessible texts is now available as part of the Scholars Portal Books platform.

To date, the repository contains more than 2,000 texts available in five formats (two types of PDFs, Text, DAISY and ePub).

Scholars Portal’s ACE service is focused on advancing equality for library users with print disabilities.

The repository aims to make Ontario’s university library collections accessible, enhancing user access to a diverse body of library materials.

Once eligible students obtain an access code from Services for Students with Disabilities, they may search ACE and download available materials.

Requests for alternate formats not found in ACE can be submitted to libraryaccessibility@brocku.ca or through the alternate format request form.
