Brock University will welcome close to 1,200 runners and walkers from across Niagara this weekend during the CIBC Run for a Cure.

The Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation event is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 5 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:15 a.m. with opening and closing ceremonies at Isaac’s. Participants can run or walk five kilometres or one kilometre.

This will be Brock’s second year hosting the event on campus, and many teams will represent the University, including Brock Varsity Swimming, Brock Running Club, Brock Roots African-Caribbean Society, Brock M & S Outliers and Brock View Rentals.

Volunteers from across campus will also be out to support this event.

Registration is still open, and Brock’s team is recruiting runners and walkers. To take part, register online. Those unable to join the team on run day can still contribute to the cause by donating online to the Brock team.

Members of the Brock community are encouraged to wear pink on Friday, Oct. 3 to show their support for the event.

Although the impact to campus traffic is expected to be minimal, here are some details to keep in mind:

• University Road East from Flora Egerter Way to Village Road will be closed from about 9:45 a.m. to 10:30 a.m. for the start of the run. Access to and from Lot P will not be available during this time.
• Guests entering campus during the event will be encouraged to use the St. David’s Road and Glenridge entrance.
• Free parking will be available in Zone 1 for the duration of the event. Visitors will still have access to Lots B and D throughout the run and DeCew, Vallee and Earp residences can be accessed by using the Glenridge Avenue entrance (traffic circle).
