The Ontario chapter of the Canadian Intramural Recreation Association (CIRA) has recognized Brock’s intramural program with an Outstanding Intramural Achievement Award.

This is the sixth year the University’s program has brought home this accolade. The award, which has the motto “Fun, Active Participation for All,” recognizes student leadership opportunities provided within intramural programs in Ontario.

“From officiating and timekeeping, to scheduling and supervising, more than 225 students are involved in the operation of our intramural programs,” says Karen McAllister-Kenny, director, Recreation Services. “A big congratulations to Megan Locker, our intramural co-ordinator, and all of the student staff involved in managing the program.”

In 2013-14, Brock’s intramural program feature 3,025 games that involved nearly 850 teams and more than 6,500 participants. Intramural leagues run during fall, winter and spring semesters, and include a wide range of activities, from basketball, slow-pitch, badminton and soccer, to underwater hockey, broomball and inner tube water polo.

This season’s highlights included the first Quidditch tournament and the cancellation of the first weekend of the annual snow football tournament - because there was too much snow!
