Barbara McDonald has been named to become Brock’s interim University Librarian when University Librarian Margaret Grove retires early this summer.

McDonald has served as Brock’s Associate University Librarian for Collections and Liaison since 2010, after holding a number of positions at McMaster and Memorial universities.

Grove has served as University Librarian since 2000, after previously serving as Associate University Librarian.

Brock Provost Neil McCartney said McDonald begins her new role July 1.

“Barbara will serve in that role until June 30, 2015, or until a successor is appointed,” said McCartney. “She is committed to ensuring that libraries are active partners in developing the emerging digital scholarly ecosystem, as is evident from her work on a number of projects at Brock and beyond.”

Her initiatives at Brock have included such projects as e-Thesis, Scholarly Journals at Brock, Open Access Week and the Open Access Publishing Fund.

Also on July 1, Jonathan Younker will replace McDonald as Interim Associate University Librarian. Younker is currently the Head of Library Systems and Technologies. He joined Brock in 2002 after holding positions at the Fremont Public Library District and Chicago-Kent School of Law.

The search for a new University Librarian will begin shortly.
