The team of Vanessa Hartwick, Brendan Ellingham, Nicolas Baudin won $2,000 for their first-place proposal at the annual Grant Dobson Case Competition.
This year’s theme was ‘Make time for play time’, which focused on the long-term consequences of failing to address childhood obesity.
The winning trio proposed a wristband that tracks activity of children and accumulates points online that could be redeemed for a discount at a sporting goods store.
Oriane Kerleguer, Dustin Secord, Mitchell Cowan, Josiah Pulst placed second and won $1,200 for proposing a card game that had physical activities on each to challenge friends and collect cards upon winning.
The third-place team of Connor Adams, Simon Grottker and Josta Willebrand had a plan to travel across Canada and disseminate information and put on an activity day.
They won $800.
The Dobson Case Competition was founded in 2005 and named in 2008 for the late Grant Dobson, who served as the executive director of the Office of External Relations at Brock University.
The establishment of this event works to further the objectives set by Terry O’Malley as a platform within the Lecture in Marketing and Advertising to deliver opportunities for students to learn about and implement the current strategies and roles of advertising, marketing and mass media.
