The Affordable Food Project is running Brock University’s largest ever food drive and is looking for help.
Perishable and nonperishable food items will be collected Tuesday, Feb 25 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. in the lobby of Schmon Tower.
The goal is to collect 10,000 pounds of food in just one day (enough to feed more than 10,000 meals to students in need).
It is an ambitious goal, but Fed Up has already received a commitment for more than 5,000 pounds so far.
Students, staff, and faculty who bring in food donations will be entered in a raffle to win a $500 gift certificate to a local grocery store.
Fed Up The Affordable Food Project started in 2011 and grew out of student hopes to save money on food.
The food will be used in the program’s grocery delivery and pick up service for students (a free service for all Brock students).
It will also host a series of community food events during the remainder of the term, where free food will be provided along with resources around eating healthy and affordably on a student budget.
The project incorporated as a not-for-profit in order to grow a handful of food-based initiatives and provide better service for students looking to save money and be given more food options.
