“It became obvious to me, that my paths of success, in both my personal life and in my business life, are directly related to the education and experiences I received right here at Brock University” said John Zoccoli, as he accepted the Brock University Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award.

His remarks came at a Saturday, Sept. 21 luncheon that was part of Homecoming 2013 celebrations.

Accepting his award in front of more than 200 guests at Pond Inlet, Zoccoli spoke candidly about his active student life and cited many memories of Brock.

“How about those old class grad photos in Thistle Corridor, wow, love those hairdos and glasses.”

Guests also chuckled when he referenced free parking, coin-operated photocopiers and looking up archived articles on microfiche machines.

Zoccoli has held numerous volunteer posts at Brock, including co-chair of his co-op accounting class’s 25th anniversary reunion, guest speaker at numerous Goodman School of Business classes and honorary president for the Business Student’s Association, which hosts academic competitions and conferences. He has also been involved with numerous community organizations, including the United Way, St. Catharines Jaycees and the Niagara District Chartered Accountants Association.

Zoccoli, a graduate of the co-op accounting program and successful entrepreneur, also talked about the value of a Brock degree and the role all alumni have in promoting the University’s reputation.

“Whenever and wherever we have the opportunity to promote Brock University, we should do so, and we do it proudly. Alumni are the best advocates and living testimonials available when it comes to building University reputation and awareness.”

The proud graduate and now father of a current Brock student, Zoccoli could not be more proud of his affiliation with his alma mater, that started over 30 years ago when he was a student.

“I will be forever grateful to Brock, and I will forever treasure this wonderful award,” said the proud alumnus. “I am so fortunate to have been afforded so many wonderful opportunities over these past several years and, I am a richer and a better person for these experiences.”
