Hedy McGarrell (Applied Linguistics) presented “Learning to Comment on Developing Writers’ Texts: Comment less for more Improvement” at the seventh International Conference on Language Teacher Education, Centre for Advanced Research on Language Acquisition (CARLA) at George Washington University in Washington, DC in May.

Geography Prof. Christopher Fullerton delivered a short talk, entitled “You have to create a place where people want to be”, at the Sustainable Economies, Sustainable Communities conference hosted by Queen’s University’s Monieson Centre in April 2012. Watch the presentation

Veena Dwivedi (Applied Linguistics) presented a poster entitled “The computation of meaning via event knowledge and number” with co-author and current lab member, Kaitlin Curtiss at the 20th anniversary Meeting of the Cognitive Neuroscience Society in San Franscisco in April.

Dwivedi also presented a poster entitled “Evidence of competition for resources in number interpretation.” Co-authors were Rae Gibson and James Desjardins at the 11th International Symposium of Psycholinguistics in Tenerife, Spain.

Dwivedi delivered an invited lecture at the Donders Institute for Brain, Cognition and Behaviour in Nijmegen, Netherlands in the spring. Her talk was entitled Investigations in neurocognitive mechanisms underlying semantic ambiguity.
