The Faculty of Graduate Studies has posted a series of videos highlighting presentations held earlier this year as part of the Mapping the New Knowledges Graduate Student Research Conference.

The videos feature:

The Three Minute Thesis Competition - See the presentations of six brave graduate students, listed below, who launched Brock’s first contest:
• Sierra Holtzheuser, Child and Youth Studies (Winner)
• Abdullah Mahboob, Biotechnology (Runner-up)

Environmental Sustainability in a Changing Climate - This was the topic for the February Research Café and it featured presentations by faculty and students with Brock’s Environmental Sustainability Research Centre (ESRC) as follows:
• Ryan Plummer, Director, ESRC, and Professor, Tourism and Environment
• Julia Baird, Post-Doctoral Fellow and Associate with the ESRC
• Sarah Merza, Honours Graduate, Biological Sciences
• Liette Vasseur, Professor, Biological Sciences, and ESRC associate
• Debbie Inglis, Director, Cool Climate Oenology and Viticulture Institute (CCOVI), and Associate Professor, Biological Sciences
• Kerrie Pickering, MA Student, Geography, and project manager for the ESRC

Mapping Your Future - This Fall-term presentation brought together a panel of speakers to share stories about the journey from graduate studies to careers and the opportunities and challenges along the way. The panel included:
• Philip Wright, Associate Vice-President, Information Technology and Chief Information Officer
• Brock graduate Ashley Short, Executive Director of the Learning Disabilities Association of Niagara
• Don Cyr, Dean, Goodman School of Business
• Brock graduate student Alan Rigby, a Canadian Certified Prosthetist and Orthotist who operates clinics in Niagara
Also, the event featured a presentation from Cameron Muir, an Associate Professor of Psychology, on the effects of stress on one’s physiological, psychological, and emotional health, and the mechanisms and strategies of coping with stress.

Planning is now under way for the line-up of 2013-14 conference events - stay tuned for more details to be announced in September.
