On Feb. 23, the Confucius Institute at Brock teamed up with the Niagara Centre for Arts in Niagara Falls to co-organize a cultural event to mark the end of this year’s Spring Festival.

The Chinese New Year Festival, or Spring Festival as it is also known, is an important festival in China. It is based on the lunar calendar and lasts 15 days, with the end marked by the Lantern Festival, which corresponds with the first full moon of the New Year.

This year’s festival began on Feb. 10 with Chinese New Year celebrations.

More than 100 people gathered to enjoy the Lantern Festival event at the Centre for the Arts, including Counselor of Education Jun Fang from the Chinese Consulate General in Toronto.

“Through dance and song, joy and happiness was shared with the audience, who were as diverse as the performers themselves, coming from many different cultures, races and ethnicities,” says James D. Maur, a member of the Confucius Institute at Brock University Art Troupe.

The event featured numerous talented performers from across Niagara.
