He has built a successful home building business, travelled to both the North and South Poles and trekked the entire 855 kilometres that is the Bruce Trail to raise millions of dollars for children’s charities.

Now Fred Losani can add distinguished graduate to his list of accomplishments.

Losani, who owns Losani Homes in Hamilton, has been named the Goodman School of Business Distinguished Graduate for 2012-2013.

The award is presented to a graduate of the Goodman School of Business at Brock University for outstanding business or personal achievement.

“It is a great honour for the Goodman School of Business to welcome Mr. Losani as its distinguished graduate for 2012-2013,” said Don Cyr, Dean of the School of Business. “Mr. Losani is a well-respected businessman whose company, Losani Homes, has won many awards.

“In addition to his business success, he is passionate about philanthropy and adventure, and his philosophy - that helping the children of today builds a better future - is one that Fred has built into his personal and corporate values, and one that makes him truly a distinguished grad,” Cyr added.

Losani Homes was founded in 1976. The second-generation company serves as homebuilder, developer, commercial design and build contractor and property manager.

It has also been named one of Canada’s 50 Best Managed Companies and is renowned for its award-winning designs, craftsmanship and customer service.

Losani’s philanthropy includes the 30-day Bruce Trail hike, which he completed with other business leaders in Hamilton. Called the Bruce Trail Expedition for Kids, the group raised more than $3 million for charities dedicated to helping Hamilton’s inner-city children.

“On every trek we have undertaken, our goal for fundraising has been simple: to raise as much awareness and financial support as possible for our Hamilton youth,” Losani said. “However, this experience has been so much more than that. We are truly exploring in our own backyard.

“Through this journey we have been able to draw attention to the variety of natural beauty and breathtaking scenery that we have right here. We’re helping get a new generation of students and their parents thinking about protecting and maintaining the Bruce Trail, which is just outside their door.”

Losani will be recognized at a private reception on Dec. 5.
