The Royal Canadian Mint has created five circulation coins to commemorate the defining moments of the War of 1812.

And representatives from the Mint will be at Brock University on Monday, Oct. 15 to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the war with a coin exchange in Guernsey Market from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Staff and students are invited to trade in their pocket change at face value for the new coins.

Today, the Mint unveiled a new circulation quarter honouring the memory of Maj.-Gen. Sir Isaac Brock. This is the first of four circulation coins that commemorate key historical figures who influenced the fight for Canada from 1812 to 1814.

The Royal Canadian Mint was also a sponsor of this year’s General Brock’s October Soirée where guests were provided with a commemorative take away $2-dollar coin of the HMS Shannon.
