September is just days away and with it comes not only the start of another school year but four weeks filled with hustle and bustle on campus.

The month kicks off with the annual residence move-in blitz on Labour Day followed by orientation week, which features activities and events for students on and off campus.

Orientation week runs Monday, Sept. 3 to Sunday, Sept. 9.

Here is some of what’s going on during the week:’

Monday, Sept. 3

Residence move-in blitz. Six hours, more than 2,300 students and their families, and more than 500 volunteers, including 100 University staff. Brock will welcome thousands of students to its six residence complexes.

Live Burn, 8:30 p.m., in front of the tower. A life lesson featuring a controlled burn of a mock residence room designed and furnished to resemble a typical student’s room. This fire safety demo provides a real-time illustration of how quickly fire can spread.

Tower Party, 9:30 p.m. to 1 a.m. A dance party in front of the Schmon Tower.

Tuesday, Sept. 4

Campus Tours, 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Tours for students to help them get acquainted with campus.

Vendor Fair, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To familiarize students with services, programs and organizations on campus and off.

Academic Orientation, various sessions, 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is an opportunity for students to meet professors and classmates in their faculties and majors.

Wednesday, Sept. 5

Vendor Fair, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. To familiarize students with services, programs and organizations on campus and off.

Concert, 7 p.m. Located in Weather Station Field and featuring Steve Angello.

Saturday, Sept. 8

Shinerama, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Isaac’s Bar and Grill. Car washes, shoe shines and a barbecue to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis.

The festivities don’t end there, though. Sept. 21 to 30 is Brock Days, a homecoming and community celebration for alumni and current students both on and off campus.

Friday, Sept. 14

VolunteerFEST, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Jubilee Court. More than 50 agencies set up shop in search of volunteers throughout the school year.

Friday, Sept. 21

Brock Days events kick off on campus with Tribute! an annual roast and toast of a campus celebrity from 6:30 p.m. to 10 p.m. at Pond Inlet. Student Life counsellor Les McCurdy-Myers is this year’s honouree.

Saturday, Sept. 22

Brock University Alumni Association annual general meeting and break-out sessions, 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Welch Hall. The AGM is an open meeting followed by special interest and professional development sessions, tours on campus and a social at Alphie’s Trough.

Keynote speaker, Peter Goodspeed (BA ‘74), international affairs reporter at the National Post, takes to the podium from 12:45 to 2 p.m. in Academic South 204.

Fine Food, Fine Wine, Fine Art, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m., Pond Inlet. Food, wine and local art event for alumni.

Friday, Sept. 28

Barbecue, concert, Grape Stomp and farmers market, noon, Jubilee Court. Enjoy a free lunchtime concert and what’s touted as the messiest tradition on campus. Those attending are encouraged to bring non-perishable food item for the food drive.

Isaac’s Army rally is Sept. 29 with a rally in the morning to kick off rugby and lacrosse games in the afternoon on campus.

The Brock University Philosophical Society annual conference happens Sept. 20 to Sept. 22, Sankey Chamber. It’s the George Bataille Conference on Love’s nine great secret things, featuring Brock’s world renowned Bataille scholar, Leslie Anne Boldt.
