Business students bring home more honours

Brock business students did well at the Jeux du Commerce celebration.

Brock business students are celebrating a series of victories so far this year, from local awards to provincial competitions.

Alyssa Freeman received the Up and Coming Award at the Women in Business Awards ceremony on Jan. 25. Freeman is a business administration student and president of the Brock Business Students’ Association.

A group of business students also competed in the Jeux du Commerce (JDC) Central Business Games at Carleton University on Jan. 20 and 21. David Birch won the award for best overall debate speaker, while Oliver Corey, Birch, Emily Snyder and Joseph Crawford received third place overall for debate. The Brock delegation of 47 students also received the sportsmanship award. Jon Turco and Zach Savoia were co-captains.

Forty-nine Brock students also competed in the DECA (Developing Excellence Celebrating Achievement) U provincial conference and competition Jan. 20 and 21. More than 2,100 delegates competed. Brock winners were:

  • Shannon Buckley – top three in oral presentations
  • Massine Bouzerar – top three in written exam
  • Mithulan Perinpanayagam and Max Marchuk – top three in oral presentations, third place overall

The president of DECA U Brock is Erin Gurr. Lecturer Jacqueline Glenney was the coach.
