Smart Finish gives students a career edge

Brock students gearing up for life after university will get some sensible advice at a one-day forum this weekend.

Smart Finish, a conference for third- and fourth-year students, takes place on Saturday, Feb. 4, from 8:30 a.m. to 4:15 p.m. in Academic South.

The event is $20 (lunch included). Organizers say students who attend will walk away with the inside scoop on topics like career exploration, resume and interview tips, further education and OSAP repayment.

“The idea behind Smart Finish is to help relieve some of the stress and worry that our students experience as they approach graduation,” said Lisa Kuiper, employer development and marketing co-ordinator for Career Services.

“This event is for those students nearing graduation who are asking themselves questions like ‘what now?’ and ‘what’s next for me?’ We’ve put together a practical program that, we hope, specifically addresses and provides answers and options to these questions.”

Smart Finish will feature an opening keynote address, “Get Wired, You’re Hired,” by career specialist Mark Swartz. The conference will include several workshops throughout the day on subjects like resume do’s and don’ts, speed networking and strategies for managing job interviews.

There will also be a Career Information Marketplace with more info on career and post-graduate options for students tailored to their areas of study.
