Do you know a Brock graduate who deserves to be recognized for his or her accomplishment, dedication or spirit?  This 2011-12 school year marks the 35th anniversary of the Brock University Alumni Association (BUAA) and it’s celebrating by honouring 35 grads who embody what’s best about Brock through their scholarly, creative, humanitarian or professional contributions to Canada and beyond in an event titled the Alumni of Distinction Awards.

The BUAA originated in 1967 but wasn’t officially incorporated until the 1976-77 school year, which is why the anniversary year may be confusing to some. The past 35 years have been marked by continuous development and growth for the association as it continues to work with Brock Alumni Relations to advocate on behalf of the University’s graduates. The BUAA strives to increase the value of a Brock degree and supporting grads in their personal and professional development.

This awards gala originated in the 2006-07 school year under the name “30 from the Past Thirty” when the BUAA celebrated its 30th anniversary. Thirty outstanding Brock graduates scattered over North America  received an award to acknowledge their commitment to exemplifying Brock University’s core values — imagination, innovation, and commitment.  Examples of such remarkable grads include a former MuchMusic VJ, a silver medal Olympian, a university basketball coach and a war crimes prosecutor.

With over 75,000 graduates, the BUAA takes great pride in recognizing their achievements and will celebrate 35 more alumni at the Alumni of Distinction Awards on Saturday, March 31 at Amici’s Banquet Centre in Thorold.

If you’d like to nominate a Brock University graduate for an Alumni of Distinction Award, please download the nomination form and return it by Thursday, Dec. 15, 2011.

For more information on the Alumni of Distinction Awards, contact the Brock University Alumni Association by emailing alumniassociation@brocku.ca or calling 905-688-5550 x4502.

The BUAA is also hosting the Brock Rock curling bonspiel on Saturday, Feb. 4. You can find more information about it here.
