Staff, students and visitors pin poppies to the wreaths laid in the Ian Beddis Gym.

Members of the Brock community gathered in the Ian Beddis Gym today to pay tribute to people past and present who fought for their country.

The annual service hosted by the Faith and Life Centre featured readings from various student organizations, as well as President Jack Lightstone.

“We cannot forget the people of our nation who, from all walks of life and cultures, step forward and put their lives on the line in the name of values we hold dear and share internationally,” said chaplain David Galston.

“From the first nations who have been here since time immemorial to the most recent of immigrants, people of our land gave their lives for rights that cannot be compromised.”

Lightstone said Remembrance Day is not a day to glorify war, but to honour those who give the supreme service to their country.

“We gather precisely because war is a catastrophe that should inspire us all to work for peace.”
