Brock giving back at Halloween with fun run and food drive

Halloween Jack-O-Lanterns

Halloween means giving back at Brock with a food drive and fun run to help local charities.

A Halloween 5K Fun Run/Walk will benefit Brock’s United Way campaign on Monday, Oct. 31. Brock faculty, staff and students will register around 11:45 a.m. and run or walk two circuits around the campus in costume. Proceeds will benefit the United Way of St. Catharines and District.

Meanwhile, Student Life and Community Experience is holding its annual Trick or Treat Community Food Drive, touring neighbourhoods in St. Catharines and Thorold to collect non-perishable food. Student volunteers are needed to distribute flyers on Oct. 21 and help collect the food from 4 to 8 p.m. on Halloween.

Participants in the Fun Run/Walk must collect a minimum of $20 in pledges to participate. Dress in your most extravagant costume, but keep in mind that you’ll be moving around campus in it. Register in costume by the tennis courts outside the Walker Complex at 11:30 a.m.

The food drive team will meet that day in the Schmon Tower lobby at 4 p.m. Students are encouraged to dress in their Halloween costumes, although it is not mandatory. The goal is to fill 12 bins of food to donate to Community Care of St. Catharines and Thorold.

To help with the food drive, visit brocku.ca/slce and fill out an event volunteer registration form, or contact Marion Goreski, community outreach assistant, at community@brocku.ca
