Shine Day raises more than $18,000

Brock students raised $18,289 for the Shinerama campaign during “Shine Day” last week.

The students hit the streets of Niagara to shine shoes and wash cars on Sept. 10. The effort raised money for the Brock University Students’ Union‘s campaign to benefit cystic fibrosis research.

Since 2004, Shinerama has raised more than $146,000 at Brock. This year, more than 800 volunteers participated. The 2011 campaign also marked the first time BUSU branched into Pelham and Welland. Shinerama events were also held in St. Catharines, Thorold and Niagara Falls. There were 23 sites in total.

“BUSU and Shinerama have worked closely this summer and our planning and collaboration, coupled with the support of our amazing student volunteers and community partners, really paid off,” said Shinerama co-ordinator Alexandra Swigger.
