Lionel LaCroix from the Department of Teacher Education gave the invited lecture “Mathematics Activity in Workplace Training: A Researcher’s View From the Back of the Classroom” at Portland State University on June 2. This was part a public lecture series “Alternative Forms of Knowledge Construction in Mathematics and Science.”

He also presented a paper titled “Learning Mathematics for the Workplace: An Activity Theory Study of Pipe Trades Training” at the Canadian Mathematics Education Study Group annual conference at Memorial University in St. Johns, NL on June 11.

On July 11, he presented “Subjectification Within Mathematics Learning Activity: Examples From Workplace Training” at the annual conference of the International Group for the Psychology of Mathematics Education, held at the Middle East Technical University in Ankara, Turkey.
