President’s Golf Tournament raises funds for student athletes

Golfers joined President Jack Lightstone at Legends on the Niagara in Niagara Falls yesterday for the ninth annual President’s Tournament in support of Brock Athletics.

This year’s tournament, led once again by David Howes, chair of the President’s Tournament and immediate past chair of the Brock Board of Trustees, raised $75,000 which goes exclusively to awards and financial support for the University’s student athletes.

“The proceeds from this event make the difference in helping some of Canada’s smartest young athletes fulfill their university studies and become key contributors to society,” Howes said.

Brock has a tradition of athletic excellence. In its 44-year history, the Badgers have captured 28 national and 56 provincial championships. It currently offers 26 varsity sports, which includes 14 men’s and 12 women’s programs.

“Brock athletes not only excel in sport, but also in academics,” said Lightstone. “In addition, they are active members in the Niagara community. Athletes who benefit from these awards maintain a high academic standing, all the while juggling athletics, studies, part-time jobs and volunteering.”

Sodexo was the tournament’s presenting sponsor.
