Black history month events taking place

A number of events are planned at Brock University this month to mark Black History Month.

On Friday, Feb. 5 Brock’s ROOTS African Caribbean Society is holding a discussion panel exploring the question “Can Black people be Racist?” The talk takes place in Welch Hall 317 from 5-7 p.m. 

The Centre for Studies in Arts and Culture is holding a Black History Film Festival the first and last weekends of the month. All of the screenings are being held in room 156 in the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine and Performing Arts. Admission is free and open to the public.

On Feb. 5 at 6 p.m., the movie A Raisin in the Sun starring Sidney Poitier is showing.

On Feb. 6 starting at 1 p.m., the movies Get On Up and Half of a Yellow Sun will be shown.

On Feb. 26 at 6 p.m. Brock Associate Professor Tamari Kitossma will speak about the social politics of blackness and black cinema and the Spike Lee Film Do The Right Thing will be screened.

On Feb. 27 starting at 1 p.m. the films Desert Flower and The Wiz will play.
