Thousands attend annual Fall Preview Day

More than 4,000 students and parents visited Brock University Sunday during Fall Preview Day.

The halls were a sea of Brock backpacks and brochures as students and parents explored the university and talked to students, faculty and staff.

The annual campus showcase is the most important day on the recruiting calendar.

“It has been fabulous,” said Melissa Beamer, manager of recruitment services. “The sun is shining and everyone is having a great time seeing what Brock has to offer.”

For recruiters, getting students and parents on campus is key. Once people visit and experience first-hand Brock’s sense of community, it is an easy sell. The beautiful campus nestled on the Niagara Escarpment near the Bruce Trail, modern facilities and enthusiastic students, faculty and staff are all reasons people choose Brock.

Beamer said Brock’s sense of community was on display with everyone on campus pitching in to make sure the prospective students enjoyed their visit.

“The faculty, staff and student turnout was amazing,” Beamer said. “We’ve really shown people what Brock is all about.”

Beth Natale, director of recruitment and retention, said the closure of Highway 406 wasn’t ideal as it snarled traffic in St. Catharines. However, she said a crew of student ambassadors was out at major intersections helping direct people to Brock.

Natale said approximately 30 percent of the students who visited on Sunday are from Niagara.

Prospective students and their parents attended information sessions, took extensive campus tours, talked to students and participated in a massive information fair showcasing programs and student services.
