Over 100 athletes signed on to participate in peer-to-peer fundraising

Brock Athletics has recently relaunched the Adopt-an-Athlete program to support athletics at Brock University.

The peer-to-peer fundraising program was custom built for Brock University’s Athletics department and the pilot project launched on Sept. 28, 2015. There are 11 teams participating in the pilot, with plans to eventually include all 42 varsity teams and clubs.

Although crowdfunding is not a new fundraising concept, the project is a unique collaboration between the Department of Athletics and the Department of Development and Alumni Relations to ensure teams are able to raise additional funding to offset the costs of competing. All funds raised through this initiative stay within the specific team or club. Lisa-Marie Smith, Manager of Services and Operations in Development and Alumni Relations, was assigned this project just a few short months ago when she started at Brock.

“It’s incredible to see that in just one week over $6,500 has been raised for students by students and their support networks. Their dedication to Brock Athletics is inspiring.” said Smith.

The program is meant to assist athletes’ fundraising efforts and complement support that some teams already receive.

All donors are issued a charitable tax receipt for their gift of $20 or more. To support athletes or teams at Brock University please visit gobadgers.ca and click Donate Now.
