Merrittville bridge closure delayed

Staff and students commuting to Brock University via Merrittville Hwy. will have a few extra days to figure out their new driving route.

Merrittville Hwy. between Decew Rd. and Beaverdams Rd. had been scheduled to close Sept. 14 so that work could begin on replacing the Power Canal Bridge.

However, the Niagara Region said Thursday that because the project to replace a bridge on Beaverdams Rd. is still wrapping up, the Merrittville Hwy. closure will be delayed by three days to Thursday, Sept. 17.

Merrittville Hwy. will be closed until August, 2016 for the work to be done. In addition to the new, wider bridge being built, a new causeway leading up to the bridge will also be constructed.

The posted detour uses Beaverdams Rd., Collier Rd. and St. David’s Rd.
