Alumni honoured for achievements

There was a wonderful display of alumni longevity at the Alumni Recognition Reception on Saturday afternoon.

Tucked inside Plaza Building on a rainy, cloudy Homecoming afternoon, over 100 alumni were welcomed into the Cameo Club and commemorated on their successes since graduating from Brock University 25 or more years ago. Shaking the hands of Brock University Alumni Association President Chris Phillips (BBA ’94) and Brock University President and Vice-Chancellor Jack Lightstone, each individual received their cameo pin, a silhouette of our University namesake, Maj.-Gen. Sir Isaac Brock.

The Brock University Alumni Association (BUAA) also awarded five Faculty Graduate Awards to individuals who since graduating Brock have achieved excellence in their professional careers and/or provide service to society.

• 2015 Goodman School of Business Distinguished Graduate – Mark Arthur (BAdmin ’77)

• 2015 Faculty of Applied Health Sciences Graduate – Erin Mathaney (BSM ’05)

• 2015 Faculty of Humanities Distinguished Graduate – Craig Tallman (BA ’76)

• 2015 Faculty of Mathematics and Sciences Distinguished Graduate – Yousef Haj-Ahmad (BSc ’80; MSc ’82)

• 2015 Faculty of Social Sciences Distinguished Graduate – Scott Maxwell (BA ’88)

The distinguished alumni award is given annually to an alumni who has exemplified the spirit of Brock and earned prominence as a result of their exceptional professional achievements and/or service to society. This year, the BUAA presented Dan McGrath (BAdmin’85) as its top alumnus with the 2015 Brock University Alumni Association Distinguished Alumni Award.

“Our alumni are making an impact on their communities and we want to recognize the work that they do,” said Shelley Huxley, Director, Alumni and Donor Relations.

McGrath exemplifies the spirit of Brock through his dedication to the big screen, through his contribution to Canadian cultural excellence and by providing support and resources to youth in need.
