Accounting students selected for provincial competition

Six Goodman School of Business accounting students will compete for pride and prizes in a provincial competition on Saturday.

They represent two of 37 teams from 20 universities headed to the Chartered Professional Accountants (CPA) of Ontario competition, called Battle for CA$H. The students are: Michael Nash, Markus Madrid and Shuvendu Saha; and Medha Verma, Zaman Dubey and Novdeep Arora.

The sextet, three of whom are co-op students, was selected to compete by the CPA of Ontario’s board of ambassadors in partnership with accounting/business society executives from 20 university programs across the province.

The Battle for CA$H Competition pits the teams against each other in a friendly competition stressing the use of CPA skills, including communications, teamwork, leadership and time management.

First prize-winners get the prestigious CA$H Cup, plus $3,000 and an additional $1,500 for their university’s accounting/business society. Additional prizes include $1,500 for second, $750 for third, and $300 for fourth and fifth place.

The Chartered Professional Accountants of Ontario is the qualifying and regulatory body of Ontario’s almost 37,000 CPAs and 6,000 CPA Students. The group serves the public interest by developing, monitoring and enforcing the highest standards of professional competence and ethical conduct.
