The Brock Cyclones cycling team recently took part in the Big Move Cancer Ride raising $11,600 for local cancer care thanks to the support of Brock staff, faculty and friends.

Representing the University was a team of 17 participants made up of Brock staff, faculty, alumni, senior administration and members of the Board of Trustees.

The Cyclones were represented in every one of the event’s rides with Claire Gallop (Alumni Relations) in the 160K – 30K of which was uphill – Mike Siolkowsky (IT Services) and his six year old daughter Amelia in tandem for a 25K, and the remaining team cycling against head winds and hills in either the 50K or 100K.

Congratulations to Mike Siolkowsky for being the team’s top fundraiser, raising $2,000.

The Big Move Cancer Ride was a successful community event, with more than 520 cyclists and 200 volunteers, which raised more than $408,000 in support of equipment for the Walker Family Cancer Centre.

“The weather for the day was synonymous with hope for a cure for cancer,” says team captain Marion Hansen (University Secretariat). “A dark foreboding morning sky quickly gave way to clear blue skies and much welcome sunshine. This was a spectacular community event for a great cause, and we’re pleased Brock was a part of it.”
