Surgite— online and interactive!

Surgite magazine

Surgite magazine

Last year, we introduced Surgite as a digital magazine, enabling readers to experience alumni news from their iPad, tablet, desktop and/or mobile device.  In our upcoming March edition, readers will enjoy new, interactive pieces.  You can watch videos, access bonus features and share content.  Also, watch for Class Acts, a new feature in Surgite that invites grads to submit news on careers, marriages, births and life experiences.  This feature will only be available in the digital version of Surgite,  so don’t miss it!

My name is Robert Wein, I graduated from Brock in 1993, with my BBA. I lived on-campus all 4 years, 3 in DeCew and my 4th in the Village.
In 2009 I was in a bike vs. car accident in Kanata. This is the story: http://www.ottawacitizen.com/life/hard-road/After+crash/2587362/story.html.
As a result of this accident, I have an acquired brain injury.
June was named by Ottawa’s mayor as “Brain Injury Awareness” month. To raise awareness, and funds, I am hosting the 2nd annual walk called Conquer Acquired Brain Injury, or CABI. On June 15, upwards of 100+ local (Ottawa) & 50+ global participants will join me on the CABI walk. All proceeds will be donated to “Pathways To Independence” to build a local resource center and residence for 5 individuals that have an extreme case, and aren’t able to safely live on their own. For more information on the Ottawa branch of Pathways, follow this link http://www.ottawa.pathwaysind.com/.

I wanted to share the story, and hopefully have the upcoming walk mentioned in a future edition.

I did post-graduate work in education (1978-80) at Brock and received my Master of Education (MEd) in October of 1980. I was employed in the field of Education for about 20 years as a school principal and classroom teacher. I think presenting SURGITE as a digital magazine on the Internet is a very good idea. It is convenient and saves tons of paper.
