Get set to detour as bicentennial events close Guernsey Market on Thursday Oct. 11

Market Hall will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 11 to prepare for General Brock's October Soirée.

Market Hall will be closed on Thursday, Oct. 11 to prepare for General Brock's October Soirée.

Anyone walking through Thistle Complex this week will encounter detours and hallway congestion due to campus events commemorating the bicentennial of the War of 1812 and the death of Sir Isaac Brock.

The biggest impact will be Thursday, Oct. 11 when Guernsey Market and the adjoining Market Hall are shut down as workers prepare the big facility to host that night’s General Brock’s October Soirée, an annual gala that raises thousands of dollars for student awards.

Key points for Thursday:

• Guernsey food court will be closed
• There will be no pedestrian access to or through Market Hall
• Anyone wanting to transit through Market Hall will see signs for detours through adjacent corridors

Alternate dining options for Thursday:

• Lowenberger and Decew residence dining halls, open 9:30 a.m. – 6 p.m.;
and 6 p.m. – 1 a.m. for residence students
• Walker Complex food court, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
• Tim Horton’s (Tower), 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
• Tim Horton’s (Thistle), 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
• Cairns Complex mini market, 8 a.m. – 3 p.m.
• Union Station, 9:30 a.m. – 8 p.m.

Guernsey Market and Market Hall will return to normal operations on Friday, Oct. 12.

Also on Thursday, peak pedestrian traffic could be slowed in the main Thistle corridors outside Matheson Learning Commons and Sean O’Sullivan Theatre, as crews set up props and decorations for that evening’s Soirée.

The reduced hallway space means people should give themselves extra time to walk through the general area surrounding the Market.
