Named in honour of David Betzner (BSc ’85) who lent his time and energy to the Brock University Alumni Association for 18 years, the David Betzner Award recognizes alumni who have demonstrated loyalty and commitment to their alma mater by supporting Brock University and/or the Alumni Association through continuous dedicated volunteer service.

The affection and dedication that Terence Scheltema (BBE ’96) has for Brock stems from his engaged student experience and volunteer involvement. After graduating in 1996, Scheltema remained actively engaged with Brock University as director for the Brock University Alumni Association from 1997 to 2003. For the past 14 years, Scheltema also has volunteered as a Brock Alumni Ottawa Network representative. In this role, Scheltema has hosted several receptions on Parliament Hill, one of which won a CCAE Prix D’Excellence award for best alumni event. Other signature network events he’s been involved with include an event at the Canadian War Museum (with more than 200 alumni participants), the Bytown Wardroom Dinner, as well as receptions at Rideau Club and local restaurants.
