A perfect day for the BUAA golf tournament

Jumping for joyOn Saturday, Sept. 10, 2011, 68 Brock University alumni, faculty members, staff and students attended the 15th annual Brock University Alumni Association golf tournament at Thundering Waters golf course in Niagara Falls.

The weather was perfect for a day of golf and socializing. The tournament kicked off with a wonderful barbecue lunch and message from Brock University President Jack Lightstone. Around 1:15 p.m., the golfers headed out to begin their first hole.

There were several contests and prizes that the foursomes kept in mind. The double double contest, sponsored by Tim Hortons on St. David’s Road, went to the team that had the largest amount of double bogeys and eagles throughout their game. At hole seven, there was a one-club contest sponsored by Wormald Masse Keen Lopinski LLP. In this contest, the teams needed to roll dice to determine what club they would use at that hole. This gave some teams a handicap if they rolled a number that corresponded with a less-useful club. Hole 10 held an exciting challenge, sponsored by HUB International. If a foursome got a hole-in-one at this hole, they would win $10,000. Meanwhile, at hole 18, sponsored by Deloitte, male and female golfers competed for the longest drive. Last but not least, there was a winning foursome, which had to have the best score out of all of the participating foursomes.

Our 2011 BUAA golf tournament contest winners are as follows:

  • Winning foursome – Paul Douglas, John Bezina, Jason Smith and Brian Wright (TD Insurance Meloche Monnex)
  • Double double contest – Ross Yeo (BSc ’75), Rob Hilson, Mike Farrell (BEd ’04) and Christine Jones
  • One club contest – Jim Ugulini (BAcc ’08), Mark De Vreede (BAcc ’07), Greg Angelone (BAcc ’08) and Chris Shearer (BAcc ’07)
  • Longest drive contest – Male: Chris Tatarnic (BA ’85);  Female: Marianne Vessel (BBA ’92)

Unfortunately there was no hole-in-one winner, but there’s always next year!

After a long day of golfing, the teams relaxed at a buffet dinner that was provided by Thundering Waters, and wine that was available through Creekside Winery. Contest winners were announced and 50/50 and raffle tickets were drawn for additional prizes.

Overall, the day was a success. Wonderful weather, food and people made the 15th annual Brock University Alumni Association Golf Tournament a day to remember.
