President Jack Lightstone has received an honorary degree from Niagara College.

At the college’s afternoon Convocation ceremony on Wednesday, President Dan Patterson presented Lightstone with an honorary degree in Applied Studies.

In his Convocation address, Lightstone spoke of the importance of Niagara’s two post-secondary institutions working together to benefit the region. He called Niagara College “arguably the best college in the Ontario system” and pledged to continue a positive relationship.

“We have accomplished important things up until now and there is much more work yet to be done to build strong relations, to give new students and future students at Niagara College and at Brock better opportunities,” Lightstone said.

“I know that we are committed to it, and I certainly know that President Patterson and his team are committed to continuing this work.”

Lightstone addressed more than 300 students who graduated from the college’s schools of Liberal Arts and Sciences and Community Services.

Niagara Regional Police Service Chief of Police Wendy Southall was granted an Honorary Diploma in Policing and Security.
