Three questions with… Brad Clarke

Brad Clarke

Brad Clarke in the soon-to-be-completed Student Leadership and Innovation Commons

Brad Clarke, manager of Student and Community Outreach, is a proud Brock alumnus who once served as president of the Brock University Students’ Union (BUSU). In his job, he oversees Brock’s new Student Life and Community Experience department and its three activity centres: Student Leadership and Engagement, Off-Campus Living and Neighbourhood Relations, and Student and Community Outreach (formerly Community Connections). He lives in Welland with his wife Kacey, who is a teacher and fellow Brock grad, and their two children, Lauren (age four) and Lee (age two). He has worked at Brock since 2003.

What do you like about your job?

My favourite parts of my job revolve around building partnerships and starting new initiatives. I love collaborating with students and with staff and faculty on programs and I always try to keep my focus central to the goal of enhancing the student experience at Brock. For example, we, in partnership with BUSU, are just putting the finishing touches on the new Student Leadership and Innovation Commons (SLIC). It’s a dynamic workspace for student leaders and student organizations that will open this September in Mackenzie Chown A 204. I really think I have the greatest job in the world. I work with a lot of really energized people.

What do you do for fun?

I like to spend time with my family and friends and I’m a big sports fan. My absolute favourite thing to do if I have a chunk of “free” time is traditional barbecue — slow and low is the way to go!

Where did you go on your last vacation?

Our last “big” vacation was in 2008; my brother got married in Barbados in the church of the little village where our dad was born — St. David’s. It was a great family reunion and a huge celebration. We mixed just the right amount of relaxing in too. I’m hoping to go to Barbados again this Christmas, so I’m looking forward to that. We have a lot of family there.
