Riverbend Inn & Reif Estate Winery
The Wiens and Reif families invite you to enjoy a truly remarkable experience. The Riverbend Inn surrounded by its own 12 acre vineyard is managed by Reif Estate Winery producing wines exclusively from the Riverbend Inn Vineyards. The Inn is housed in a Georgian mansion fully restored to its former elegance by John Wiens and his family. The winery, which is located just two kilometers away from the Riverbend Inn along the Niagara River Parkway, was established in 1982 and is home to a 125 acre vineyard also located in the Niagara River Appellation. This appellation is one of the warmest in the Niagara Region and includes vineyards specifically located along the Niagara River.
This unique and exciting partnership began in 2002 with the preparation of the Riverbend Inn Vineyards with block plantings of Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Sauvignon Blanc and Vidal for Icewine. Winemaker Klaus Reif has undertaken the task of planting vineyards at Riverbend Inn incorporating recent breakthroughs in vine spacing and viticulture techniques. The wines produced from the Inn's vineyards showcase his philosophy that great wines start in the vineyard. The first vintage released in the fall of 2006 yielded extraordinary wines from the lush rows of Chardonnay and Cabernet Sauvignon. Overall production is expected to reach about 2,000 cases of wines each year with the wines only available at the Riverbend Inn and on-site at Reif Estate Winery. These two historical properties have also created wonderful wine country getaways where guests are invited to spend the night at the Inn, experience the fine wines in the dining room and visit the winery where the wines were produced on a private tour and tasting. Visits can also be combined with tickets to the Shaw Festival and a picnic at the winery for a truly unforgettable experience.
