Field Placements

SPMA 3P02 - Sport Management Field Work
Placement in an internal Brock University sport or sport-related organization. Placements will be determined by instructor.
Instructional aspects include topics surrounding preparation for professional engagement in the sport industry.
Tutorials, 2 hours alternating weeks, plus 80 hours field work.
Restriction: Open to SPMA majors with a minimum of 8.0 overall credits 
Prerequisites: SPMA 2P05 and 2P06 

Note: Students repeating this course are not guaranteed a placement.
 
Internships

SPMA 4F01/4F02 - Sport Management Internship
Internship in an approved sport or sport-related organization.  SPMA 4F01, the Sport Management Internship Project, is of mutual interest to the student and organization in which the student is placed for their Internship (SPMA 4F02). The Project will be developed and carried out in consultation with the internship supervisor and the course instructor.
Restriction: Open to SPMA majors with 13 credits, first three years of SPMA core completed with 70% average and permission of the instructor.
Note: Placement will be a full-time (450hr) experience over the period of one term.  Students are responsible for obtaining the internship in consultation with the Experiential Learning Coordinator. Depending upon the nature of the placement, a criminal reference check may be required. Students may not concurrently register in SPMA 4F03, 4F04, 4F05 or 4P92.

Queen Elizabeth Scholars Initiative - SPMA 4F01/4F02/4PXX - Sport Management Internship
Internships will occur primarily in developing Commonwealth countries and will relate to sport development, sport-for-development and Games-related projects. A small number of internships will occur in Island nations that are part of an international initiative to develop the sport of rowing. The QE Scholars program provides Brock University Faculty of Applied Health Sciences students with the opportunity to travel abroad to complete an internship, helping build leaders and communities through sport, while receiving a $6,000 scholarship.
Restriction: Open to SPMA majors with 13 credits, first three years of SPMA core completed with 70% average and permission of the instructor.
Note: Placement will be a four month experience over the period of one term. Students must apply using the QE Scholars Application Form. Application does not guarantee selection. Depending upon the nature of the placement, a criminal reference check may be required. Students may not concurrently register in SPMA 4F03, 4F04, 4F05 or 4P92.
