Anna H. Lathrop

Anna H. Lathrop completed her BPhed (Honours) in 1978 at Brock University. This experience set the stage for a career of service and contribution to the field of physical education and academia. This focus on professional contributions was also balanced with representing her university and contributing to the community. In fact, while at Brock Anna was a nationally ranked Varsity fencing champion.

Anna went on to complete her M.A. at the University of Western Ontario (1989) and her Ed.D at the University of Toronto (1997), further focusing her capacities and interests on physical education and instruction..
Currently Dr. Lathrop is a Professor of Physical Education and Kinesiology and Associate Dean, Undergraduate Affairs, in the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences, has been appointed to the position of Interim Dean for the Faculty of Applied Health Sciences for a one-year period.

Her research interests lie in the areas of History of Physical Education and Sport, Children and physical activity, Gender and sport, and Pedagogy in Higher Education and she continues demonstrate her scholarship and leadership in her national and international presentations and publications.

In 2001, Anna achieved a “Grand Slam” of teaching awards, winning the Brock University Distinguished Teaching Award, the 3M Teaching Fellowship of Canada Award (2001) and the Ontario Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities Leadership in Faculty Teaching Award (2007-08). She continues to contribute to the Brock community by not only providing outstanding Undergraduate learning experiences, but also supervising and mentoring TA’s, and giving teaching workshops to Brock faculty.

Anna service is not limited to Brock University however, as she is also an active member of the Niagara community in areas of land use and social justice.
