Alumni Association Student Awards

All awards are administered through the Student Awards and Financial Aid Office (SAFA) and can be applied for online through the SAFA website. For a complete listing of alumni awards, do a search for alumni on the SAFA website. 

Alumni Association Student Award
The Brock University Alumni Association Award recognizes Brock students who contribute to a vibrant on-campus life and constitute an invaluable resource in the broader community, locally and nationally. The value of this award is $500.

To be eligible for this award you must fulfil the following requirements:
Student Status: must be a part-time or full-time Brock student; completed a minimum of ten credits at Brock University.
Extra-curricular Involvement: demonstrated a meaningful contribution towards the enrichment of extracurricular life both on-campus and in the broader community; locally, regionally or nationally.
Academic Requirements: achieved a B average in his/her major.


Badger Award
Established in memory of Victoria Catherine Hull, this award honours graduating students who have demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities by their involvement in the extra-curricular life of the University while at the same time having maintained an above-average academic standing. The winner of this award will be presented with a commemorative watch.

To be eligible for this award you must fulfil the following requirements:
Student Status: be registered as a full-time or part-time student at Brock; be eligible for graduation at the completion of the current academic session and graduate at the appropriate convocation. Should a person selected not graduate, the award would revert to the next eligible candidate.
Extra-curricular Involvement: demonstrated outstanding leadership qualities through contribution to the extra-curricular life of the Brock community.
Academic Requirements: have achieved an overall average of 75% or higher.


Silver Badger Award
Established in memory of Barrie-Ann Bergsma, a member of Brock's first graduating class, by her family. This award is presented to a student who has maintained high academic standing, while making a significant on-going contribution to the extra-curricular life of the University. This award is supported by income from the Silver Badger Award endowment and has an estimated value of $1500.

To be eligible for this award, you must fulfil the following requirements:
Student Status: currently registered full-time at Brock and have successfully completed five or more credits in the previous fall/winter session.
Extra-curricular Involvement: made a meaningful contribution to the development of extracurricular life within the community.
Academic Requirement: achieved a B average overall in his/her major.
Financial Need: demonstrate financial need and meet the Ontario residency requirements of the Ontario Student Assistance Program. Financial need will be determined by completion of a student profile available on the student awards and financial aid website


David S. Betzner Award
Named in honour of David Betzner (BSc, cosc, ‘85), who lent his time and energy to the Brock University Alumni Association for 18 years, including a term as president. David played a significant role in developing the constitution and governance model for the Alumni Association and has served as an advisor and mentor to numerous presidents. The award consists of a certificate of recognition.

This Award recognizes alumni who have demonstrated loyalty and commitment to their alma mater by supporting Brock University and/or the Alumni Association through continuous dedicated volunteer service. The award can be conferred on a living person and posthumously. Each year there can be only one recipient in each category.

To be eligible for this award, the nominee must fulfil the following requirements:
Continuous commitment of volunteer service to Brock University through work with alumni, students, faculty and staff.
An alumnus of Brock University with the exception of current members of the BUAA board of directors and current employees of the University.
If the nominee is a retired, former employee or faculty member, their volunteer service and commitment must be demonstrably above and beyond the requirements of their position with the University.
