After receiving her PhD in accounting at Ohio State University (1995), Barbara Sainty taught accounting at the University of Regina, Ohio State, the Richard Ivey School of Business at the University of Western Ontario and here at Brock University.
She joined Brock in 1999 and taught in the Master of Accountancy program when it started in January 2000. She has a passion for helping students understand how accounting affects the decision–making process of an organization, and she is proud that five of her Masters students have gone on to pursue doctoral studies in accounting.
While at Brock, she has been Director of the Master of Accountancy program, Department Chair and Associate Dean of Undergraduate Programs and AACSB International. Sainty has published in several journals including the Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance, the Journal of Accounting Literature and the Journal of Economic Behavior and Organization.
Prior to entering academe, Sainty received a Retail Co-op diploma (Honours) from Humber College and worked in the retail industry for several years. Her interest in budgets and numbers as a retail manager led her to explore other career options and eventually led to accounting. A chartered accountant (CA) and certified management accountant (CMA), she articled at Ernst & Young, LLP and keeps active in the accounting profession. Currently she sits on the Examinations Committee at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario.
