DANIELS SEEKS VICE FACTS HERE; FOSDICK TO AID

Chicago vice conditions are to undergo a thorough scrutiny at the suggestion of Secretary of the Navy Daniels. This was announced in Washington yesterday when Mr. Daniels directed Raymond R. Fosdick, chairman of the commission on training camp activities, to make an investigation as affecting soldiers and sailors.

It was said that Mr. Fosdick will send his investigators into the field at once and make a tabulation of the dance hall evil, the granting of special bar permits, the operation of disorderly places, and the sale of liquor to men in uniform.

Mr. Daniels, in announcing the investigation, referred to Mr. Fosdick a written statement with reference to Chicago vice conditions. The statement is the one handed him by a delegation of clergymen, headed by Samuel Fallows, upon the secretary’s visit to Chicago on Wednesday.
