CLOECLOE,

Ontario's Co-operative Learning Object Exchange, is a collaborative initiative of Ontario universities and colleges to develop an innovative infrastructure for the joint design, development, testing and sharing of multimedia-rich teaching and learning resources.

The key innovation in CLOE is the creation of a virtual market economy for engaging multimedia to support online learning. Each institutional member engages in some aspect of the development of multimedia teaching and learning resources to address instructional challenges that are shared by the other partners. Each institutional member participates in the peer review process, reuses and provides feedback on objects from the repository, or builds and contributes educational multimedia to the co-operative exchange.  All members can use resources developed by the other institutions in return. The virtual market encourages collaboration across institutions to pool ideas and co-ordinate development.

CLOE member institutions are engaged in a number of related activities. CLOE is an institutional member and very active participant in MERLOT. Each year, Camp CLOE provides faculty, staff and student employees from member institutions with a 5 day on-site learning experience that addresses instructional design strategies for the design and development of digital teaching and learning resources. CLOE also has published online Case Stories to guide colleagues through the process of designing eLearning.  Finally, CLOE membership provides access to the shared database of CLOE teaching and learning resources.
