Wonderful Seminar - Freeman Patterson

By karenplumb - Posted on 04 November 2010

Wow! What an inspiring seminar given by Nature Photographer, Freeman Patterson. I just returned home from the Brock U. St. Catharines campus where Freeman Patterson gave a free seminar to a variety of Arts students, Education Students and members of the Community. He spoke to Creativity! He talked about life, death, significant people in his life, dreams, travel to places such as South Africa, New Zealand, Halifax, and he displayed many photographs of his work. He is very accomplished in his field, became a member of the Order of Canada in 1985, and has shared awards with the likes of Ansel Adams. He says that everyone has creativity and it is the responsibility of the creator to use it and apply it. He thinks that creativity is both individual and collaborative which is interesting because when I think of working collaboratively in groups at school creativity emerges from the group into some terrific work whether that is lesson plans or a presentation. When we get a job and are working at a school we will be working as a team to create Unit plans. With respect to creativity Freeman Patterson says that he either dreams it or photographs it. As I reflect on his talk I see the opportunity to create lesson plans using the resources I can find given the expectation from the curriculum. It helps me make sense of what we are learning in our program. Another speaker coming to Brock, St. Catherines is Robert Munsch Sunday Apr, 10, 2011 at 1pm and 4pm. This one is not free though - too bad!
